We Like Gravel 2

Come and cycle in the heart of Friuli

THE “WE LIKE GRAVEL” SAGA RETURNS WITH ITS FIRST HILLY EDITION

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the cycle tourism ride shines a spotlight on the landscapes of Middle Friuli to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1976 earthquake. Registration opens on May 25.

SAN DANIELE DEL FRIULI (UD) – Following the great success of the autumn edition on October 4, 2025, along the Spilimbergo-Clauzetto route, the We Like Bike Consortium is raising the stakes for cycle tourism by doubling its appointments for 2026. On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the first edition of “We Like Gravel 2” will make its official debut, while Gravel 1 remains scheduled for the beginning of autumn. Both are non-competitive, free-pace excursions designed to showcase and celebrate the extraordinary scenic, historical, and cultural richness of Friuli’s hilly and foothill areas.

A Traveling Memorial on Two Wheels

This year’s event carries profound symbolic value. The route is designed as a true traveling memorial that will pass through the areas hardest hit by the Friuli earthquake, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the ’76 disaster. It is a journey of remembrance winding through rivers, hills, and villages that stood at the heart of a great story of destruction, grief, and rebirth.

Three Routes

The event, with its start and finish line in Via Cesare Battisti in San Daniele del Friuli (at the large parking area of the Bagatto prosciutto factory), offers three itineraries suitable for gravel and mountain bikes (both muscular and e-bikes), featuring different characteristics and difficulty profiles.

  • Route A (105.5 km): The complete itinerary, dedicated to well-trained riders. Beyond being well over a hundred kilometers long, it features a much more challenging elevation gain. After crossing the Tagliamento River at Pioverno, cyclists will tackle the climb toward Monte Prat (maximum altitude of 794 meters, with a total positive elevation gain of 1,496 meters), before heading back down toward Forgaria, crossing the river again at Cimano to return to San Daniele.

  • Route B (99.5 km): Designed to skip the Monte Prat climb. It crosses the Tagliamento at Pioverno and returns to the left bank at Braulins, heading south to join the FVG1 cycle path at Osoppo, with a total elevation gain of 999 meters and a maximum altitude of 279 meters.

  • Route C (89.6 km): This route stays entirely along the left bank of the Tagliamento River. After sharing a section with the other tracks, it loops around the Osoppo fort hill, offering a minimal overall elevation gain without tackling any significant climbs.

Participants will receive the GPX track of their chosen route directly via email the day before the event. However, the choice of route remains open and fully flexible until the very last moment.

Celebration and Hospitality, Friulian Style

We Like Gravel 2 places hospitality at its core. Upon arriving in San Daniele, starting from 1:00 PM, all cyclists will be welcomed with a well-deserved refreshment and a mandatory slice of San Daniele Prosciutto. Furthermore, all participants will receive the official event T-shirt and other goodies.
