We Like Gravel is a group ride and free-pace cycle tourism excursion designed to showcase and appreciate the landscape of the middle Tagliamento River, stretching between San Daniele, Spilimbergo, and the surrounding areas.
The second autumn edition of this ride—which is not a race or a competition, but simply a great trip through wonderful places—will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Participants will gather starting at 7:30 AM, with check-in and staggered departures beginning at 8:30 AM from Via Cesare Battisti in San Daniele del Friuli (the same location where the event will conclude a few hours later).
The use of gravel bikes or mountain bikes (both traditional and e-bikes) is recommended. The route features mixed terrain, predominantly unpaved (gravel), with occasional stretches on paved roads and a couple of unavoidable crossings of provincial or regional roads.
Participants can choose between two routes, to be indicated at the time of registration (though choices can also be made at the last minute, as the tracks share large sections of the outbound and return journeys with intermediate variations).
Route A (Full Itinerary): The longer route heads outbound between San Daniele and Spilimbergo, reaching the trails along the Tagliamento riverbed from Pinzano—after an approach that plunges into the Monte Ragogna area—before climbing into the historic heart of the mosaic city. After a refreshment stop, it continues toward the territory of Sequals, climbs toward Castelnuovo up to the bluffs of Monte Pala, and heads back toward Vito d’Asio through the Arzino Valley to the bridges of Cimano. The return to San Daniele winds through the hills of Majano and Rive d’Arcano. This is an extremely varied route with a total length of 103 km and an elevation gain of 1,749 meters.
Route B: A 67 km route with less elevation, which cuts short the return journey by turning toward Ragogna.
Regardless of the chosen route, the ride remains a deeply rewarding experience—not overly demanding and within reach of any cyclist with a bit of training. The itinerary offers great charm through a mix of exclusive natural environments (the slopes of Monte di Ragogna and Monte Pala, on both banks of the central Tagliamento Park near the Pinzano narrows) and urban centers of great historical, artistic, and cultural prestige.
A slice of prosciutto and a plate of pasta will await cyclists at the finish line in San Daniele, along with complimentary gifts for all participants. Ample parking is available near the start and finish area.
